The Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite aboard the NOAA-NASA Suomi NPP satellite captured these colorized-infrared images of Hurricane Maria at approximately 2:15 am EDT on September 20, 2017, as it passed close to St. Croix. At the time, Maria was a category 5 storm with winds of 165 miles per hour.
